The second meeting of the World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves was hosted by Jeju island biosphere reserve, Republic of Korea, from 12 to 13 of September 2012.
Representatives from Menorca, Jeju, Yakushima, El Hierro, Grand Canaria, West Estonia Archipielago, Palawan, Santana Madeira, Mexican Pacific region, Siberut, Principe, representatives from Aegean Sea in Shinan area, members from Spain MAB and Korea MAB and UNESCO (Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences) gathered and examined their future action plans, and made a few decisions.
Conclusions:
- To increase the donations for the World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves.
- Increase the number of members in the network
- Promotion of joint research projects
- Hold the network meeting on regular basis
- Initiative Plan from 2013 to 2014
- Consider the possibility of involving international organizations in support of the Network, e.g. the specialized agencies of the United Nations, European Union or other international agencies in order to give greater visibility to the Network.
